Paragraph on Kerala Flood2018 Kerala Floods

Kerala experienced the largest disaster of flood and landslide after 1924. The south Indian state of Kerala was affected by the dangerous floods on 15th August 2018 and onwards. The continuous heavy rainfall for some days caused it. It was the worst flooding in Kerala in a century. Four hundred eighty-three people died. Fourteen people were missed. Approx a million people were affected. The mainly affected areas were several districts (Chengannur, Pandanad, Edanad, Aranmula, Kozhencherry, Ayiroor, Ranni, Pandalam, Kuttanad, Aluva, and Chalakudy, N.Paravur, Chendamangalam, Eloor ) and few places in Vypin Island. Fourteen districts were on red alert. According to the Kerala Government, the major population of Kerala has been affected by floods and flood-related incidents. The Indian Government had declared it as a “Level 3 Calamity”. It is the worst flood in Kerala after the great flood of 99.

Historically, 35 dams within the state were opened for the first time. The Indian Prime Minister monitored minutely regularly. The National Crisis Management Committee undertook the rescue plan and relief operations.

Various organizations and NGOs had participated in collecting relief funds from all the states in India. Over 500 crore was collected from the public, including organizations, corporate firms and famous personalities. However, natural calamities like floods in Kerala have been fixed in the heart of India till now. It is remarked as significant on the historical pages.
